The nostalgic sculptures by Jeff de Boer stand six metres tall, with colourful, 1.5-metre-long airplane carousels that fly in circles above travellers. Introduced to the domestic terminal in 2002, the piece took de Boer more than 5,000 hours to construct by hand.Inspired by the airport’s prompt to design something that would delight travellers both young and old, de Boer decided on a wind-up toy display.
