, which includes an increase in the mil rate for residents.
The mil rate for residents will be 7.4, a 0.2 increase, costing residents an extra $15 a month next year, while water and sewer moves from $600 to $625. The commercial water and sewer mil rate increased to 1.5 from 1.0. The town says with rising costs, supply chain issues and inflation, it is costing them more to provide services, and the increase in the mil rate is the right decision so that they can continue to operate effectively.
The $40.7 million budget features water and sewer upgrades for several new areas, increased funding for snow clearing equipment and staff, and $1 million of the annual street rehabilitation program. Money is also going towards a new playground for Peter Barry Duff Memorial Park, site preparations for the Canada Summer Games, trail improvements, and finalizing the design of the Community Boathouse, among other initiatives.
