and Breanne Wilson-Bennett are among the finalists for top player awards announced Thursday by the Premier Hockey Federation.who will face Chuli in the Isobel Cup on Sunday in ArizonaHoward was nominated for newcomer of the year, along with Boston’s Loren Gabel and Montreal’s Ann-Sophie Bettez.
Wilson-Bennett is one of seven nominees for the Denna Laing Award, presented to the player “who most exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to the sport.” Those players include Bettez, Boston’s Lauren Kelly, Buffalo’s Lovisa Berndtsson, Connecticut’s Mallory Souliotis, the Metropolitan Riveter’s Kaycie Anderson and Joanna Albers of the Minnesota Whitecaps.
The categories were voted on by the new women’s chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association and members of the PHF’s hockey operations and players’ association. Winners be announced in the days following Sunday’s Isobel Cup final.
