Playing its first game since an 11-8 loss to the Buffalo Bandits on Dec. 17, the Rock’s defensive unit held New York to just four goals after the home side took an early 3-0 lead. It also made things rather easy for goaltender Nick Rose who faced just 42 shots.
Leading the scoring for the Rock at Nassau Coliseum was Stephen Keogh, who scored twice in an 87-second span to open the third quarter, then added another in the final minute of the period.Article contentCorey Small opened Toronto’s scoring late in the first and ended with two on the night. Zach Manns, Mitch DeSnoo and Tom Schreiber also scored twice each. Challen Rogers, Dan Craig and Brad Kri added singles as did TD Ierlan, who was dominant on faceoffs against veteran Jay Thorimbert.
Scott Dominey, who started his career with Toronto, scored twice for New York as did Larson Sundown and Callum Crawford. Kevin Brownell added one. Jeff Teat, the National Lacrosse League rookie of the year last season, was held to just two assists. The Rock return home to First Ontario Centre next Saturday to face the Halifax Thunderbirds. The Thunderbirds improved to 3-1 on Saturday with a 14-11 road win over the Albany FireWolves.
