Previously a strength of the team, the Raptors\u0027 depth hit new lows this season. Rectifying that will be a focus of the upcoming off\u002Dseason.
Flynn hasn’t found a consistent role since coming to the Raptors. He showed flashes in the Tampa Tank year getting significant minutes once COVID had already ensured a poor finish. But in the ensuring years he hasn’t had what anyone would consider a real opportunity, either to flourish or definitively prove he couldn’t do it.
But Nurse wasn’t done there and this could be a window into what will go on this summer in regard to development. Dwane Casey, the long-time Raptors head coach who has left his coach’s whistle behind and moved upstairs to join the front office in Detroit following this past season, was in Toronto in February with the Pistons. He was running the bench here when VanVleet, Siakam, Poeltl, Delon Wright and C.J. Miles had so much success as Toronto’s ‘bench mob.’
Today’s version of a bench mob would come from a list of guys that includes Flynn, Precious Achiuwa, Jeff Dowtin Jr, Christian Koloko, Dalano Banton, and perhaps Ron Harper Jr. or Joe Wieskamp. There’s also the veteran Chris Boucher, but as Casey suggested, convincing a guy who has been in the league a little longer to commit to an all-summer project might be tough.Article content
