Close to 20 shots were fired at Toronto Police officers trying to apprehend a suspect in Scarborough Tuesday night.
Toronto Police Supt. Steve Watts of the Gun and Gang Task Force said his officers lay in wait on a residential street north of Eglinton Ave. E. and Kennedy Rd. in an attempt to arrest a suspect — a man wanted on various firearms offences — who had eluded them since March. “I want to emphasize how fortunate we are that none of our officers were struck by gunfire during last night’s events,” said Watts.Article content The woman said she’d seen first a person running through her backyard and thought it was somebody trying to corral the next door neighbour’s dog — and then the gunfire started.
