Looking for some new suds to enjoy this spring? Here, the Steadfast co-owners share five of their favourite locally brewed beers in Toronto.
Graham Pinchin wanted to open a brewery so he could brew the beers he wanted to drink, sure, but that wasn’t the only reason. What he really craved was community. “I wanted to serve those beers to people who enjoy talking to us, to their friends and to their neighbours,” he said.
Along with nine signature brews — including Hidden Rivers Pale Ale and White Man Can’t Dunkel Dunkelweizen — Steadfast also has a bustling events schedule, including low-stakes trivia nights, Suds an’ Bubs parent-baby meet-ups, and newbie-friendly board-game nights featuring Dungeons & Dragons. On Turntable Thursdays, anyone who brings a record to play gets a complimentary pint. In the spirit of inclusivity, all Steadfast events are free .
“When I introduce two locals and they leave together talking about funk music, those little experiences give me the most joy.” Steadfast’s most popular beer is Going Steady Amber Ale, a malt-forward brew that tastes like caramel, biscuits and toasted bread, which Pinchin said is “excellent for introducing people without much craft-beer experience to more flavourful beers.” For those with more adventurous palates, Steadfast sells a spicy hot-pepper citrus session IPA, a champagne tripel, and a maple-syrup red ale.
