With their work in England nearly complete, Canada’s leading Fathers of Confederation, Macdonald, Cartier, Tupper, Tilley and Galt, were granted a private audience with Her Majesty Queen Victoria on this date in 1867. The British North America Act soon to be approved by the British Parliament, and these nation-makers would soon head back across the Atlantic to begin the hard work of cementing the new Dominion. Their audience with Her Majesty was well-earned.
