SaltWire Network | Posted: 1 hour ago | Updated: 1 hour ago | 4 Min ReadSYDNEY, N.S. — A Lawrencetown woman, with no prior record, is now to serve a three-year jail sentence after pleading guilty to a single count of robbery.Millman had previously elected to be tried in Supreme Court but re-elected to a provincial court and entered a guilty plea.The court was told that Millman entered the hall at around 11:30 p.m. and threatened the bartender.
Meanwhile, police received two calls concerning Millman. One call dealt with the robbery while the second revealed that Millman was either going to rob the fire hall or a gas station. At the time of the incident, Millman was addicted to pain medications and needed money to buy more drugs.The mother of two urged provincial court Judge Diane McGrath not to send her to jail and take her away from her children during the holiday season.
The judge said that had Millman continued with her counselling and medication, chances were good she would not have been involved in the robbery.McGrath said Millman has taken steps, since her arrest and release on conditions, to secure employment and along with steps to treat her addiction.
