Think your ex was a cockroach? 🪳 This Valentine’s Day, the Toronto Zoo is allowing people to name cockroaches after anyone they know in return for a small donation.
It’s just around the corner, but Valentine’s Day can be less than enjoyable for some, especially if you’re flying solo or nursing a broken heart.
That’s right, for a minimum donation of $25 the zoo will allow you to name a cockroach after anyone you know.Kelsey Godel, donor stewardship and engagement co-ordinator for the Toronto Zoo Wildlife Conservancy, told the Star in an email that the zoo decided to start the campaign because they “recognize that Valentine’s Day isn’t fun for everyone and were inspired by a few Zoos in the U.S. that have held similar fundraisers.
While cockroaches have a bad rap, they “play a very integral ecological role in their rainforest homes by helping to decompose forest litter and animal fecal matter and are, in turn, food for many other animals,” according to Godel.
