Tiffany Reynolds and Lily Gruber-Schulz epitomized that on Saturday night, powering the Lakehead Thunderwolves women’s basketball team to its second win of the season, downing the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks 71-67.Reynolds had 18 points and Lily Gruber-Schulz had 16 points and eight rebounds to pace the Thunderwolves attack, while fifth-year forward August Ricketts added 12 points and nine rebounds in LU’s final road game of the season.
But it took a late three-pointer by Hana Whalen to save the day. The Thunder Bay product nailed the shot with 15 seconds to go after the Wolves, who led by 19 after three, found themselves down 67-66 in the final minute of regulation. Reynolds, Gruber-Schulz and Ricketts will wrap up their university basketball careers next weekend at home against Algoma and Carleton at the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse.
Hadezma Ismaila had 17 to lead Ontario Tech, hitting a pair of free throws in the final minute to give the Ridgebacks a brief lead.
