The 11 people elected with Québec solidaire will refuse to swear allegiance to King Charles III, Presse Canadienne has learned.
They will therefore defy Canada’s 1867 constitution, boycotting one of the two obligatory oaths to sit in the National Assembly. Party co-spokesperson Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois sent a letter to the leaders of other parties in the assembly to call for a meeting as soon as possible to solve the “impasse” related to the swearing-in ceremony. In an interview, he said the solution to the problem is political and if all parties speak with each other there is a way to “respect freedom of conscience” of elected representatives.
