And the Flames will be feeling frustrated about some familiar issues that reared their ugly heads yet again on Saturday night.For the fifth straight game, the Flames’ opponent scored first, with rookie Cole McWard scoring his first NHL goal nine minutes into the game, and then Elias Pettersson giving the Canucks a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission after he scored a pretty shorthanded goal.
“I think Vancouver came out flying in the first period, I thought we played a decent period and the shorty could have killed us. Was a soft play,” Flames head coach Darryl Sutter told reporters in Vancouver. “I thought we slowly took over and then couldn’t solve .”Article content The Flames threw everything they had at Demko, finishing the game with 43 shots, but while they were largely in control throughout the second period it wasn’t until Elias Lindholm ripped a shot into the back of the Flames net 38 seconds into the third that things really began to change.The Flames kept the pressure on but couldn’t find the winner, including during a frantic, back-and-forth overtime session where both teams had plenty of chances.
“It’s going to be a huge game,” Lindholm told reporters in Vancouver about Monday’s matchup. “Nashville is fighting too and it’s going to be a good game. Just a sour taste from this one and it’s going to sting a little bit tonight, but right back to practice tomorrow and we go again.”Lindholm tied a career-high with eight shots.
