RCMP arrested six people at checkpoints in Newfoundland from Dec. 30-31. ContributedHOLYROOD, N.L. — RCMP arrested six people for impaired driving offences in two days at police checkpoints in Newfoundland from Dec. 30-31.
In Holyrood, two men tested positive for cannabis on roadside drug screening equipment and were arrested. The two were taken to the St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital in St. John’s, where blood samples were collected. The man was taken to the RNC station in St. John’s for a drug influence evaluation. He was also issued a licence suspension, along with his vehicle being seized and impounded.Around 1 a.m. in Holyrood, a man was arrested for drug-impaired driving and was taken to the Holyrood RCMP station, where police said he refused a drug test.
Later that day, around 5 p.m. in Bay Bulls, police arrested a driver after he failed a roadside breath test for alcohol.He now faces charges of impaired driving, his licence was suspended, and his vehicle was seized and impounded. He is set to appear in court at a later date.She was taken to St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, where a blood sample was obtained.
