Toronto Police Officers were present at the scene when the man “fell from the apartment window to the ground below,” police watchdog said.
The Ontario Special Investigations Unit is investigating the death of a 32-year-old man who fell from a highrise apartment in North York while police were at the scene.that Toronto Police Service officers were called to the apartment on Jane Street and Finch Avenue West at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday in response to reports of a man throwing objects from a balcony.
Three officers arrived and attempted to negotiate with him, said SIU spokesperson Kristy Denette. Another three officers from the Emergency Task Force joined them from an adjacent apartment. “In the course of negotiations, the man fell from the apartment window to the ground below,” Denette said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.Four investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case along with six witness officials, Denette said.
