The Ottawa-based e-commerce company Shopify Inc. says it won't be pulling its services from the online store of an anti-LGBTQ social media account that some say is 'really dangerous.'
Troster hopes Shopify changes its mind about the Libs of TikTok online store. The pressure comes in the wake of the recent shooting in Colorado Springs — where five people died and 17 others were wounded afterTroster called Libs of TikTok rhetoric and posts "extremism," and said its merchandise "does not need to be hosted by an Ottawa-based company."
"The 'OK, groomer' accusation is falsely stating that members of our community are responsible for pedophilia, falsely stating that we're responsible for the abuse of children. It's completely unacceptable." "It also tanks or negatively impacts the mental health of the young folks and children who are seeing that," said Johnstone, a trans activist.
Johnstone is concerned Libs of TikTok messaging can fuel transphobic and homophobic people to act on their hate.
