The case was called in Newfoundland and Labrador Supreme Court in St. John’s Tuesday, Nov. 1, where Justice Valerie Marshall heard the man’s lawyer, Mark Gruchy, is new to the case and needs more time to prepare for trial, which had previously been set to happen over five days in December. Edwards indicated the discussion may have a bearing on the accused’s chosen mode of trial, currently a trial by judge and jury.
The man was sentenced to four years in prison, but was released on bail with strict conditions a year later, pending his appeal of the conviction.
