We’ve been talking about genocide for years now in Canada, and few have even mooted the idea that someone might be held to account for it. A group of lawyers tried to convince the International Criminal Court to investigate last year; they Trudeau, in perhaps his greatest-ever feat of unseriousness, pleaded no contest to the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls’ preposterous allegation that Canada is still committing genocide against Indigenous people in general, and specifically against Indigenous women and girls. Is that not at least worth some committee hearings?
