The problem is, the very premise of Singh’s campaign makes no sense. Weston’s raise, like all income, will already be subject to tax. With this in mind, it can only be assumed Singh means to tax Galen’s raise by 100 per cent. Instead, Singh offers petitions and catchy taglines that don’t hold up outside of Twitter. His inability or unwillingness to offer a left-wing alternative to Poilievre’s economic populism means the NDP will only continue to bleed support from working-class voters and downwardly mobile young Canadians.
NDP faithful would be better off signing a petition to elect a new leader than Singh’s deluded effort to seize Weston’s raise.
