On social media, followers praised Reynolds for helping raise awareness for the annual event and bringing attention to a “Canadian hero.”I love that you stay true to your Canadian roots! I graduated from Terry Fox high school in Port Coquitlam in 2001 and also did the runs every year. It’s awesome to see you using your fame to spread the word about Terry Fox. Very cool,” one person wrote.“Terry made us proud to be Canadian as do you Mr. Reynolds!” a third wrote.
The annual run honours Fox, who, after losing his leg to osteosarcoma, decided to run across Canada to raise money and awareness for cancer research.Article content His run began on April 12, 1980, when Fox dipped his artificial leg in the Atlantic Ocean. His 143-day trek ended on Sept. 1, 1980 just outside of Thunder Bay, Ont.
To date, over $850 million has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Fox’s name through the annual Terry Fox Run, held across Canada and around the globe.
