It said Wednesday that the goal with the satellite-to-phone service is to eventually help Canadians reach 911 emergency services “from anywhere in Canada.”
Canadian telecom providers are in the midst of a years-long upgrade to the 911 system and when it is fully functional, it is meant to support texting with 911 operators. Lynk and SpaceX have begun striking similar agreements with wireless carriers around the world. Rogers will contribute access to some of its spectrum — the airwaves that carry communications signals — to help make the service work.
