Researchers in Massachusetts have created a new COVID strain that has an 80% kill rate.

This latest mutant variant is a hybrid of Omicron and the original coronavirus and proves to be significantly more deadly. The researchers working out of Boston extracted Omicron’s spike protein — the unique structure that binds to and invades human cells — attached it to the original strain and infected the mice with it to see how they would fare.

“In … mice, while Omicron causes mild, non-fatal infection, the Omicron S-carrying virus inflicts severe disease with a mortality rate of 80 percent,” they wrote in their report, according to the
