Repairs ongoing to restore power at Edmonton Law Courts, cause remains unknown yeg
The south tower of the Edmonton Law Courts lost power on Jan. 3, prompting a fire alarm and temporary evacuation around 2:45 p.m. As of Monday, the tower remains closed. The outage resulted in some lighting, IT services, and power outlets being out of service in sections of the south tower, while critical systems and backup lighting continued to operate with emergency generator power.Sign up to receive daily headline news from the Calgary Herald, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.
Investigation and repair work by Alberta Infrastructure remains underway and power to portions of the tower was being restored for Tuesday, which will allow for the return of some matters to the courtrooms located there. In an emailed statement Monday, Infrastructure Minister Nathan Neudorf said staff and specialist contractors have been working to identify the cause and find solutions to allow work at the Edmonton Law Courts to return as quickly and safely as possible.
