Statistics Canada estimates immigrants could represent up to 34 per cent of the population by 2041

Canada’s largest cities not as attractive to newcomers

Meanwhile, Atlantic Canada welcomed almost three times as many new immigrants in 2021 when compared with 2006, largely in urban areas, such as Moncton and Halifax. Statistics Canada largely links the decrease to people changing their perspectives over time but also noted that the number of children under 10 has risen and, for census purposes, they are considered to have no religious affiliation.

About 18.6 per cent of immigrants to Canada came from India from 2016 to 2021, followed by 11.4 per cent from the Philippines and 8.9 per cent from China. Recent immigrants from Europe continue to dwindle, falling to 10.1 per cent in 2021 from 61.6 per cent 50 years ago.
