A 5\u002D1 triumph against the Barrie Colts established a pair of franchise records on Saturday.
“When you’re competitive, you’re competitive 24/7. You don’t turn competitiveness on and off. If you have it, you have it. That gets you through the dog days, when you have injuries, when guys have gone to world juniors and stuff like that. That’s the main reason we’ve been able to win 51 times. I’ve been around long enough to know when you have a competitive team, don’t put a ceiling on it, especially at this age.
Ottawa was playing its third game in three days, coming off 4-1 and 4-2 wins over the Peterborough Petes, and the 67’s got off to a sluggish start Saturday, with the Colts controlling the play, though the hosts picked it up in the final two periods. The 67’s tied it early in the second period, on a power play, with Brady Stonehouse making a nice play to avoid a sliding defender, then knocking in his own rebound.
“We kind of talked about it in the room,” said Stonehouse, who passed to Morrison rather than shooting and trying for his hat trick. “He was at 39 goals. I could have shot, but why not have a 40-goal scorer? None of us will ever be selfish. We always have each other’s backs. We play for one another, it’s a brotherhood.”Article content
