There really is only one way to go, assuming the Raptors are up to full health.

But with a proven NBA centre in the fold now that Jakob Poeltl has arrived, Trent Jr. looks like the most likely candidate to provide some offence off the bench.O.G. Anunoby returns after a nine-game absence with a strained right wrist that he revealed on Wednesday that doctors initially thought might require surgery.

He is expected to join Fred VanVleet, Scottie Barnes, Pascal Siakam and Poeltl in a starting five that, if all goes well and everyone stays healthy, should be the five to finish off the season. Khem Birch had already fallen out of the rotation by the time the deal was made and, by stepping right into the starting five, it creates depth by sending a guy like Trent Jr. to the bench where he will still be counted on to provide scoring the way he did as a starter.

As Nurse said earlier this week, it’s a good problem to have, but it can also be a dicey one if the man losing his starting status balks at it.

Play-in for what? Raptors come out of All-Star break looking to climb Eastern ConferencePlay-in for what? Raptors come out of All-Star break looking to climb Eastern ConferenceThe Toronto Raptors will be better over their final 23 games than they were over their first 59. That much seems pretty straightforward. The acquisition of Jakob Poeltl, an All-Star break for some of the league’s most overworked players to rest up, and potential returns from injury for two key wings should all push Toronto in the winning direction.
