SA’s current-account deficit improved to 2.2% in the fourth quarter of 2018, but analysts say this was due to weak local demand
The rand was softer against major global currencies on Thursday afternoon, as global markets waited for the European Central Bank policy meeting.
Locally, the Reserve Bank said that SA’s current-account deficit narrowed to 2.2% of GDP in the fourth quarter of 2018, from 3.7% in the third quarter.
