The province says if passed, it will ensure the province’s public education system focuses on what matters most such as reading, writing and math.Education Minister Stephen Lecce is proposing to establish “provincial priorities” on student achievement for school boards, strengthen training for trustees and board officials, and use surplus school board properties for housing.
The bill also seeks to “modernize” teacher education, make disciplinary processes more efficient, and foster greater parent involvement. Requiring school boards to publicly post a multi-year Board Improvement Plan that reflects the minister’s priorities for student achievement, creating authority to deploy personnel to support school boards when needed, along with greater oversight over provincially funded tax dollars
Building schools faster and implementing measures to utilize current school spaces, ensuring Ontario is getting more classrooms into communities who need them Expanding eligibility for therapy counselling for student victims of sexual abuse through the Ontario College of Teachers Currently, school boards set their own education priorities, resulting in differences across the education system.
