EDMONTON—The former leader of the Reform Party, Preston Manning, has been tapped to lead Alberta’s review of the provincial COVID-19 pandemic response.
Manning will be paid $253,000 for his part and the panel will have a $2-million budget, a news release from the province said. He will recommend other members of the panel to the premier. has faced criticism over some of her stances on the pandemic. Manning, for his part, has been critical in the past of various public health measures.were the most discriminated against people she’d seen in her life — a comment she later had to clarify after an uproar. She said she’d explore pardoning COVID-19 rulebreakers and protecting unvaccinated people under human rights legislation — two things he’s backed away from since.
He also took shots at the political climate in Canada, stating proposals for public action were typically met with “a welter of partisan sniping,” negativity, and tweets about why they’re bad.
