Pictou County District RCMP is investigating a break-in at a volunteer fire department in Barneys River. - ContributedBARNEYS RIVER STATION, N.S. — Pictou County District RCMP is investigating a break-in at a volunteer fire department in Barneys River.
RCMP noted that the stolen items are essential pieces of rescue equipment used to rescue victims from serious motor vehicle collisions or gain entry to buildings. The stolen equipment includes a set of Jaws of Life, Hurst cutters, a Hurst electric ram, a Stihl Power saw and a Milwaukee reciprocating saw.“It’s unreal that somebody would do that,” he said. “It’s the same as people stealing saws from the linesman during the hurricane or stealing emergency things from the hospital.
Police said the replacements are not readily available for the equipment due to the specialized nature of the tools.
