THUNDER BAY — Travellers crossing the international bridge at Pigeon River can expect to encounter construction crews starting this spring and right through until the fall.
The bridge, which is operated jointly by the Province of Ontario and State of Minnesota, is scheduled to undergo significant reconstruction. The work will include a new concrete deck and concrete approach slabs, replacement of bearings, repairs to abutments and wingwalls, replacing the barrier wall system, and installation of new lighting.
A spokesperson for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation says the cost of the work will be shared equally by the ministry and the Minnesota Department of Transportation. During the reconstruction, one lane will be closed while the other remains open to allow for alternating use by northbound and southbound vehicles.
