The Capital District Team One Cyclones recently won the under-11 championship banner at the Dairy Queen female hockey tournament in the Moncton, N.B., area. The lead exchanged hands in the back-and-forth final until Phinley Blackman scored with a minute and a half left in the third period to break a 6-6 tie and send the Cyclones to the title. After each team went 1-for-3 in the first round of three shooters, the Cyclones pulled out the win when Naomi Gates scored on Capital District’s fourth attempt and Cyclones goaltender Eliza Pickering stopped the Inferno’s shot. Savannah Coady also scored for the Cyclones in the shootout as Capital District pulled out a 5-4 victory.
