NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has repeated his pleas to unvaccinated people to get their shots as the state records its deadliest day of the pandemic with 46 COVID-19 deaths.
“Of the 28 who died, 14 were not vaccinated with two doses. In reality, 13 were not vaccinated at all and one had had one dose of vaccine.“So this illustrates that while over 90 per cent of the population and all of the aged cohorts have received two doses, almost half of the deaths are amongst younger people or occurring in those that are not vaccinated.
“It is pleasing to see that a variety of indicators demonstrate that the spread of COVID is slowing in the community. “That all gives us a sense that the spread of COVID is slowing and it is pleasing to see and we want to thank the community and acknowledge the actions of everyone in contributing to that.”
She said this is caused by the lag time between cases being identified and ending up in hospital, and following from this a small number of deaths.
