The Stampeders won this game 25-11 but lost the season series to the Lions 2-1.If you were to look at the Calgary Stampeders’ overall pass-defence numbers for the season, you’d probably come to the conclusion that there were going to be some big holes for the B.C. Lions to exploit on Sunday.
“I think Mox going to the boundary corner, that was a good move for us,” said Stampeders head coach Dave Dickenson. “Coming into the season, we felt Javien was going to be one of our best cover guys, one our best DBs, really. We didn’t try to make excuses, but we did have a lot of injuries early and getting him back was huge.
In the other game, in mid-August, Rourke tore the Stamps apart to the tune of 488 yards in a 41-40 win for the Lions. Lots of people will focus on that game as evidence the Stampeders defence can’t contain the Lions QB, but there’s an argument that when you look at the personnel the Calgary defence was fielding that day, what we saw is just as irrelevant as the head-to-head games where the Lions didn’t have Rourke.
