Power outages can disrupt the water supply of private well systems, possibly allowing bacterial contamination. The province began offering free bacterial and general chemistry testing for Islanders on well systems on Jan. 1, and residents can pick up free supplies to test well water at Acess P.E.I. locations.
Generally, the province recommends bacterial testing at least once a year and general chemistry testing is advised every two years.
