A cardiologist told Amber MacLeod she’d never be able to run a marathon again. Eight months later, she was the first female runner to cross the finish line at the 2023 edition of the Blue Nose Marathon.
“'We fixed it, and you’re a hundred per cent better,'” MacLeod said her doctor told her.She chose the Blue Nose Marathon in Halifax and began training, despite only having two months to prepare for the race after recovering from surgery and a foot injury.
Amber MacLeod runs the Karen for Good Health Blue Nose Marathon on May 19, and was the first woman to cross the finish line. - Contributed“I’m still kind of shocked actually, I wasn’t expecting it,” she said. “And actually she motivated me, I used to run a lot and I got away from it because work got busy. I went out for a run this morning because she motivated me to get back out,” he said.
“A friend of mine got me to do my first race, oh my goodness, probably 20 years ago and I’ve just been going since.”
