It was the kind of victory the Senators might have expected when the National Hockey League season began. Senators winger Alex DeBrincat flies through the crease in front of Flyers defenceman Nick Seeler and goalie Carter Hart in the third period of Saturday’s game. The turning point came when DeBrincat broke a 1-1 deadlock on the power play with only 49 seconds remaining in the second period, finishing off a pretty passing play that also involved Brady Tkachuk and Tim Stutzle.

The goals had been a long time coming. DeBrincat, who hit the 40-goal mark twice with the Chicago Blackhawks, had been on a six-game scoring drought, his most recent goal coming back on Oct. 27, the same night the losing streak started with a 4-2 defeat against the Minnesota Wild.Article content It was an impressive bounce-back effort for the goaltender. He had a shaky outing in the 6-4 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday and pointed the finger at himself following that game, suggesting he had let his team down.“It felt great,” Talbot said. “It has been a while since we had a full game like that.”

Nico Hischier won that game in overtime for the Devils after New Jersey relief goaltender Akira Schmid made several spectacular saves.
