Therrien will oversee the implementation of recommendations from the final report of retired Supreme Court Justice Louise Arbour, who conducted an external review of sexual misconduct in the military and who delivered her final report in May. Appointing an external monitor was one of those recommendations.
Anand has met with Therrien, who will also be meeting this week with chief of the defence staff Gen. Wayne Eyre. Anand said a “large majority” of Arbour’s 48 recommendations are going to be accepted and implemented, highlighting the work already underway, including on the major recommendation to transfer cases of military sexual misconduct to civilian authorities.
