Incumbent Catherine Kitts dominated the results in the Orléans South\u002DNavan ward Monday night.
Kitts led late in the night, securing 74.56 per cent of the votes cast. Her 7,625 votes put her well ahead of Yvette Ashiri’s 2,417 . Kitts, a former community newspaper editor turned communications professional, served as vice-chair of the agriculture and rural affairs committee during the last term on council. Ashiri, a public servant and community organizer, finished second to Kitts in the 2020 byelection. She sits on several boards in the area and won an endorsement from Sen. In this newspaper’s 2022 municipal election survey leading up to the election, Kitts, in answering what she thought was the ward’s most important issue, said: “Orléans South-Navan is one of the fastest growing communities in Ottawa, and we need critical transportation infrastructure. Roads are congested and damaged, intersections are failing and yet this is where development is planned.
The Orléans South-Navan ward has a population of 47,534 and covers an area of 196.58 square kilometres.Article content
