Opinion: This Passover, don’t recline — stand up for human rights. For a people who love to discuss, differ, debate … we are largely and by my mind, scarily, quiet, writes Judith Taylor.

How do we retrain ourselves to courage? Is it possible to ask questions that are not already scripted for us and do research to answer them? Jews are actually very diverse politically, with a strong tradition of revolutionary commitment to human rights.

As Israel is foreclosing rights and continuing to militarize the lives of Palestinians, I won’t recline. I won’t tell stories of my own historical enslavement. To fellow Jews I ask of you: make a seder plate of newspapers. Bring stories of lives affected by Israel’s coup. Discuss why it might be scary to curtail the supreme court. How far we have come from the courage we celebrate. Don’t recline. Sit up. Stand up. With the enslaved. For human rights.
