Dave Feschuk: Pascal Siakam is the Raptors’ best player. He’ll have to be even better if Toronto wants to improve this year
If the question always seems to stump the Maple Leafs, we’re about to see if theHow do you make the season end differently when you bring back essentially the same team?
Still, if the Raptors are going to be better than they were last year with a Ujiri blockbuster, the improvement will need to be internal and considerable. Scottie Barnes, the reigning rookie of the year, seems a lock to take another step en route to potential stardom. Precious Achiuwa, heading into his third season as a pro, has the tools to take a competitive jump. And maybe there’s more incremental growth to come from the more likes of starters Gary Trent Jr.
But this season, at least, will see him arrive for the tip of Wednesday’s season opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers after a healthy off-season for the first time in years. This time last year, don’t forget, Siakam was rehabbing a shoulder injury that kept him out of the season’s first 10 games.
