Opinion: Doug Ford’s decision to stiff-arm the inquiry looking into last winter’s convoy crisis in Ottawa is absurd.
The widespread condemnation of Ford’s refusal is one reason I think this will stick to the premier. It’s easy for his camp to brush off criticism in the Star, but when it goes across the political spectrum they should stop and think about the damage being done to Ford’s credibility.
Maybe he’ll win his legal argument that he and Deputy Premier Sylvia Jones don’t have to obey a summons from the inquiry because they’re protected by parliamentary privilege.“important gaps” in the record No doubt it wouldn’t be comfortable for Ford and Jones. They’d be cross-examined by lawyers for the commission, the federal government, the protesters and others. Contradictions in their stories would be put under a microscope. Almost certainly, they wouldn’t come out looking very good.
