Gregor Chisholm: Blue Jays mailbag: What’s wrong with Alek Manoah, and has shine worn off Pete Walker?

, he’s not afraid to experiment and never takes a one-size-fits-all approach to his pitchers.

The 20-year-old still only has 81 2/3 innings under his belt as a professional, and unlike Manoah, he didn’t have a college career to use as his base. More important than the results is making sure Tiedemann settles into the routine and gets properly built up so the club isn’t scrambling a couple years from now to figure out his role like they are withIf the Jays’ struggles in the rotation continue, it might become appealing to press the panic button and call for Tiedemann’s arrival.

This really comes down to cost. There are clear benefits to a real warning track, such as the ones you mentioned, but they are minimal enough that it wouldn’t justify the high price of the project. I think the only way we’d ever see a dirt warning track at Rogers Centre is if the entirely field was torn up to install natural grass and that trial project was abandoned years ago.I’m sensing a bit of sarcasm.

There are plenty of plays that are called from the bench: intentional walk, double steal, sacrifice bunt, etc. It occurred to me to ask, with the advent of PitchCom, is there a rule in place that prohibits pitches being called from the bench? Could you give the PitchCom to Pete Walker or, say, Jimmy Key, and have them call the pitch selections from the dugout? No. PitchCom transmitters have only been approved for use on the field of play.
