The city of Vaughan is extending voting hours at select locations due to what it calls “technical administrative challenges that impacted standard voting hours.” Voting hours at 26 locations have been extended to either 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. Monday.

Michael Butac, 32, lined up to cast his ballot at a downtown Toronto polling station Monday morning. He said the next city council will have a number of important issues to tackle, including two parallel crises. “I think there is a lot going on in the city that needs addressing, particularly the housing crisis,” he said. “There is also the opioid crisis.”He asked the winners to address those issues and for more support for low-income families “so they can have at least a better life.”“I think we need a leadership that is willing to actually make changes,” she said, adding that housing and transportation are the most pressing issues for her.
Walking down Roncesvalles Avenue, stopping to speak with passersby, Singh was accompanied by local city councillor Gord Perks, running for re-election in Parkdale-High Park and Debbie King, who’s vying to be the new TDSB trustee in the area.Singh said he was also in town to support city council hopefuls Norm Di Pasquale in University-Rosedale and Ausma Malik in Spadina-Fort York,
“I think the city needs some strong voices and these are some really great candidates that’ll put the people first,” Singh told the Star.
