The leader of Ontario's Green Party is calling on the integrity commissioner to investigate plans that would open parts of the Greenbelt to development. 'The

, including a sizeable chunk of the Duffins-Rouge Agricultural Preserve in Pickering, and add land elsewhere in their place.According to reports by the Toronto Star and The Narwhal, along with the CBC and Globe and Mail, landowners could wind up with substantial profits from the move. Once the protections are lifted, the lands are expected to skyrocket in value.

“I appreciate these are serious allegations, and I didn’t file this complaint proudly or without due consideration, but at the request of Ontarians who deserve transparency and to have the utmost trust and respect for their elected officials,” he continued. “Unfortunately, right now people feel that their government has let them down and threatened the land they love for the benefit of private interests.
