The shooting is now being investigated as a homicide, according to a spokesperson from Peel police.
The victim of the shooting succumbed to their injuries shortly following the incident, police said. Investigators are treating the shooting as a homicide, a spokesperson told the Star over phone.
Later in the evening, a spokesperson for Peel police told reporters at the scene that forensics teams are canvassing the area for clues. No victim or suspect information was available. Police have no other information to share in the early stages of the investigation, the spokesperson continued. Further updates will be posted to Peel police’s social media.
The shooting appears to have occurred about a block away from St. Herbert Elementary School, Fallingbrook Middle School and Rick Hansen Secondary School. No other injuries have been reported at this time. A heavy police presence remained in the area through the night. Residents were advised to avoid the scene.
