The husband of an OLG employee just won $1 million playing the lottery.
Bart Rason, who is from Mississauga, won the prize in the Lotto 649 Gold Ball draw on Oct. 8, 2022.While Rason won the prize, he’s unable to receive it just yet due to his wife working for the gaming corporation..” While OLG employees are not allowed to participate in a lottery managed by the gaming corporation, family members, including immediate ones are.
Since Rason’s claim is an insider win, it requires enhanced review and validation. There must also be a 30-day publication period before a winner is able to receive their prize. The OLG said the publication period is to make sure there are no other claimants to the winning ticket. “It speaks to more of the transparency,” OLG spokesperson Tony Bitonti told the Star. “To make it public to say if anyone has an issue with this, please let us know. That's why we allow it for 30 days.”
Rason will have to wait till Feb. 12, to call himself a millionaire, if there are no other claims to the winning ticket before the date.
