There have been more frequent incidents of ice bombs falling from the bridge cables in recent years due to climate change,

Falling ice and snow was rare for the first 30 years of the Alex Fraser Bridge, which opened in 1986. “Over the past few years, however, it has become a more regular occurrence,” it said in the statement.

Despite the success of the cable collar system, the ministry said some snow may still drop from the cables as the weather warms or if it is blown off by the wind.Recommended from Editorial
