Trent Langdon, president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association. - ContributedST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers' Association is again calling for the provincial government to implement a plan to address teacher recruitment, retention and resourcing problems in schools throughout the province.

NLTA president Trent Langdon said the teachers' union wants to see a strategy developed in response to the short and long-term challenges with recruiting and retaining certified teachers in the province.

Langdon added that the union has been calling for a comprehensive strategy to address teacher recruitment and retention since early last spring. “Shortages of professionals may not be as visible in the K-12 school system as they are in other public services," said Langdon. "Children still get on the bus in the morning and come home at the end of the school day. But it is not business as usual inside our classrooms."It has been our privilege to have the trust and support of our East Coast communities for the last 200 years.
