The NICU cameras — a first-in-B.C. initiative — were first installed in Richmond Hospital’s six NICU beds as part of a pilot project in June. It came about as hospital staff were trying to find ways to connect patients and families during COVID-19. Since June, the program has virtually connected over 40 babies and their families through a private and secure livestreaming camera. It has logged more than 2,500 unique visits from parents locally and extended families across the world, including Columbia, the Philippines and Ireland.
